A report conducted in Auckland, Nz found that the best vapor cigarettes are just as efficient in helping smokers quit tobacco as the nicotine patch.

The final results were published in prestigious Lancet health journal – View study Documents , add weight to people who feel e-cigarettes needs to be welcomed as quitting smoking devices.

At one of the first randomized, controlled trials on e-cigarettes, 657 smokers were allocated either electric cigarettes, the nicotine patch or nicotine free e-cigarettes (Placebo). After 6 months, 7.8 % of people using e-cigs abstained from cigarettes, then those using the nicotine patch at 5.8 per cent and the placebo group at 4.1 percent. There were almost no substantial modifications in adverse incidents seen between the three groups.

Dr Hayden McRobbie from the Tobacco Dependence Research Unit, Queen Mary University, and co-author of The Lancet study, said,

“The outcome was encouraging for smokers who would like to try different ways to assist them to quit.”

“At six-month follow-up, e vapor cig were at least competitive with the nicotine patch, but participants were more enthusiastic about recommending e-cigarettes to others, in contrast to the patch.

“There are some obvious main reasons why. The e-cigarette does a much better job of replacing some behavioural elements of smoking that numerous people miss whenever they quit (e.g. the hand-to-mouth dexhpky09 along with the sensation of smoke inside your mouth and throat), in addition to delivering nicotine.”

E-cigarettes, with or without nicotine, were modestly effective at helping smokers to give up, with similar achievement of abstinence just like the nicotine patch, and few adverse events. Uncertainty exists regarding the place of vapor cigarettes in tobacco control, plus more scientific studies are urgently required to clearly establish their overall benefits and harms at both individual and population levels.
